Residency Period: October 2010-January 2013
Employing different media (drawing, painting, video, and installation), Jiae Hwang explores hypothetical and open-ended structures. She does this in order to address issues that arise around technology and to ponder the viability of the notions of memory and the future at a time when the demand for “speed” has rendered them almost irrelevant.
Jiae Hwang was born in Seoul Korea in 1981. She grew up in Korea and Space Coast in Florida, U.S.A. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. It has been presented at the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Serpentine Gallery (London), Tomio Koyama Gallery (Tokyo), Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery (Paris), Fredric Snitzer Gallery (Miami), MoCA North Miami, and Rubell Contemporary Art Foundation. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
